I liked vampires before it was embarrassing.

  • Eating: Spagetti in about 5 minutes :)
I've been a lover of all things vampire since I was really young. Having said that you can probably guess that I know almost everything there is to know about vamps. How they are supposed to be tall, dark and charming; Not tall, dark, and whiney. And despite the popular belief of the 11-18 age group, they do not sparkle in the sun. Nope, sadly they burn to charred little crisps or piles of ash. However you prefer. I myself believe that the only man permitted to sparkle is David Bowie so you can see my annoyance with the walking disco balls created by Stephanie Meyer.
Now I won't be able to live with myself unless I get the whole truth out. I have read the books...before the masses(and when I say masses, I say people who have read them and never really heard of vampires before that) got a hold of them.
I liked the books. I thought, "wow, a new/different take on vampires." It was a breath of fresh air. It was nice to read something I did not expect. And I almost didn't have a problem with the fact that Edward was a whiney...thing. And I was even excited about the fact that they were making a movie.
That's where all the posers came out claiming to like vampires when only they thought the main guy was hot. At this point I was embarrassed for genuine vampire lovers everywhere. The girls who pined over Gary Oldman as Dracula. Who
longed for Lestat to come through their bedroom window at night. Who knew every single Anne Rice vampire by name for that matter. The people who dress up as the most beautiful vampire they can fathom just to escape reality for awhile.
It all seems to have been forgotten to make way for a new albeit annoying age of wannabe vampire lovers. Please comment with your opinion. Keep it civil and mature though. Or if you are a member of the Gaia community, I've posted the same rant in the Chatterbox forum. Please feel free to check it out if you have some rants of your own. I reiterate, keep it civil.
